Right now, it seems that there's no set date as to when the 2019 - 2020 season will resume. However, people involved in the league are doing their best by staying healthy and training at home. For the higher-ups in the league, the next steps they take must be following the rules set by the health authorities. This also involves following protocols regarding testing and quarantine. As a medical professional, Dr. Matt Boente MD agrees that these steps are necessary to prevent the further spread of the virus. Though this could mean stringent measures, the goal is to reduce the threat to people who support the league.

There have been talks that the league is trying to organize the NHL Entry Draft by the first week of June. This mid-season draft can greatly affect the draft lottery and selection order process as it will use a system that the league has used from 1995 - 2012. For Minnesota Wild, this might put the team at a disadvantage in the first round selection as the new rules might put them at a lower rank. In a memo discussing the draft lottery, there is still hope that the team can win the draw and make it to the playoffs once the league resumes.

While there's a lot that can change in the next days, Wild fans are still hoping for their team to get an advantage that will secure the strength of their team.

Dr. Matt Boente MD is a gynecologist and oncologist who enjoys watching sports like baseball and hockey. For healthcare-related topics and sports updates, visit this page.
